The idea of commercial ranges for residential kitchens came to Viking Range Corporation's found father Fred Carl, Jr. while he was building his new home back in 1980. As a fourth generation building contractor, it was his goal and (a successful one) to develop commercial-type ovens and ranges that were specifically engineered and certified for residential home use. This was not an easy task as standard commercial ovens are not safe for home use.
