Dryer tips

Preparation

* A high washer spin speed or double spinning the clothes will use less energy than the extra drying required if you do not.

* Shake out garments as they are taken from the washer before putting them into the dryer to avoid slower longer drying while also preventing wrinkling.

* A large dry towel placed in the load will absorb moisture speeding up drying time, (two or three towels for larger loads).

* Clean lint trap before each use

Sorting

* Try to keep like items together - Light weight things with other light weight things - thick towels with other thick things, etc.

* Permanent press should not be placed with towels.

* Lingerie should be dried separately.

Loading

* Larger loads dry more economically but to large of a load will cause lint problems on garments. What ever fits comfortably in the dryer should be the "rule of thumb".

* Avoid putting wet items in a partially finished load, drying them separately will be the better choice.

Drying tips

* Dry clothes only long enough to dry them, drying beyond that point will shorten the life of the garments, increase static cling, cause shrinkage and can actually set wrinkles.

* If garments have been dried to long causing them to wrinkle, throw a damp towel into the load and run for 1/4 hour intervals until all wrinkles are removed.

* Hang or fold all garments immediately after drying to avoid causing wrinkles.

* Removing items from dryer while still slightly damp they will need less ironing especially if they are hung up immediately.

* Dry woolen items only 10 or 15 minutes at the most removing them while still damp and before they are very warm to hang up.

* Blankets should be removed before completely dry and spread over a flat surface to dry.

Efficiency and economy steps

* Locate dryer in a heated and/ or insulated space so that it will not need to work as hard, reducing operating expense.

* Cleaning the dryer filter before each use increases efficiency and reduces lint on garments.

* Periodically check the outside dryer vent to be sure it is clean and the flapper opens and closes easily, if not replace the hood it to prevent heat lose.

* Electric dryers, (only), can serve as a supplemental heat source during winter months with no hazard by merely disconnecting the vent hose.
